Mercy
Health Center Foundation
Ways to give
Your gift to Mercy Health Center Foundation
will make a difference in the lives of patients now and in the years to
come. All contributions
to the Foundation directly benefit Mercy Health Center programs and
community projects. Your gift is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
Memorials and tribute
gifts
Gifts in memory of a family member
or friend, in honor of an individual or in recognition of a special occasion
provide a special opportunity for giving. Simply make your check payable to
Mercy Foundation and note the name of the person you
would like to honor. You may designate the gift to a specific area. It is our policy to notify the honoree's family that a gift is
made. Please include the family's name and address if you would like us to
do so.
Will bequest
By remembering Mercy Health Center with a bequest in your will, you can
have an impact on healthcare that goes beyond your lifetime. Your
bequest will qualify for an estate tax charitable deduction. When you make a
bequest, we urge you to consult your attorney and other advisors, as
well as members of Mercy Health Center Foundation.
Stock/securities
Gifts of appreciated securities may offer substantial
tax advantages to the donor, including, avoidance of the capital gains tax, and an
income-tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities.
The full value may be used to offset up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross
income. Any part of the gift that exceeds the 30 percent threshold may be
carried forward for up to five additional years.
Life insurance
You can make a significant gift by naming the Mercy
Health Center Foundation as a beneficiary and assigning ownership of the policy to the
Foundation. With this method of giving, a major gift may be made with only a
modest annual payment. In addition, you can secure a valuable income tax
deduction.
Property
You can give property such as real estate, life insurance, works
of art, jewelry, rare coins and stamps, book collections, livestock and
crops. These gifts provide tax advantages and may require independent
appraisals to meet IRS guidelines.
Matching gifts
Many employers have matching-gift programs through which
your generosity to Mercy Health Center can be multiplied. As a non-profit institution,
Mercy Health Center is eligible for many matching-gift programs of corporations,
foundations and other organizations. Check with your employer to find out if
your company has a matching gift program.
Restricted and unrestricted
gifts
You may designate your gift to be
used for a specific need or you can allow us to apply your donation to meet
the Foundation's most urgent needs. If you wish to designate your
gift for a specific purpose, we ask that you contact us to be sure
we'll be able to carry out your wishes.
Endowments and spendable
funds
Endowments are permanent legacies that
provide for donor recognition as well as vital support in perpetuity for the
hospital. The principal of your endowment gift is
invested by the Foundation, a
non-profit entity supervised by a group of investment professionals. For a named fund,
Mercy has
established minimum levels of giving.
