On the journey to Magnet
What is "Magnet"?
Magnet status is the gold standard in patient care and nursing
excellence. The Magnet Recognition Program™ was developed by the
American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American
Nurses Association. The program recognizes healthcare organizations
that provide the very best in patient care.
To
earn Magnet status, organizations must apply and undergo a vigorous,
multi-faceted evaluation. The standards are tough; the evaluation is
thorough and lengthy. Only 2 percent of hospitals nationwide have
achieved a Magnet designation. No other Oklahoma
hospital has been designated a Magnet hospital.
Thanks to the excellence of Mercy nurses, our hospital has won this coveted Magnet status. Mercy submitted
its documentation in late December 2004 and hosted a team of
appraisers in March for a site visit to our hospital, with the Magnet
designation awarded in April 2005.
