A Team Approach
Mercy patients benefit from
the care of a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals,
including physicians, specialized nursing team members and clinical
specialists.
Alan B. Hollingsworth, MD,
serves as medical director of the Mercy Cancer Resource Center. A
nationally recognized leader in the field of multidisciplinary cancer
treatment, Dr. Hollingsworth is also medical director of Mercy Women’s
Center. He is joined by Tracy Higgs, RN, MS, CNS, AOCN, the
administrative director of Mercy oncology services.
Our physician group includes
medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and an orthopedic oncologist.
Other medical specialties include pathologists, radiologists and
surgeons - including a breast surgeon and several colorectal surgeons -
all of whom are board-certified.
In addition to specially trained
oncology nurses, Mercy's patient-focused care team provides oncology
pharmacists, laboratory and radiology services, registered dieticians,
certified respiratory therapists, chaplains, specialized psychiatric
care and licensed social workers. Speech and language therapists,
physical therapists and occupational therapists are also available to
meet individual patient needs.
