Nursing Research
In 1981 Mercy Health Center started its own Institutional Review
Board to oversee research studies, ensure patient safety and contribute
to current medical and nursing research. Since that time, thousands of
studies impacting countless patients have been considered and approved.
One of Mercy’s primary strategic nursing initiatives
is that nurses will take the lead in scientific inquiry and
evidence-based practice. Nursing
research projects range from those that will broaden the scope of
nursing practice to those that will manage patient populations more
effectively. A total of 15 nurse-led research projects are currently
approved by the Institutional Review Board at Mercy with more than 200
nurses engaged in the studies.
The nursing research projects allow nurses to be on
the cutting edge of nursing practice. Results allow us to learn and make
the kind of change that improves the entire care process, as well as
helping the community at large.
