Mercy CEO Elected to International Healthcare Society
Oklahoma City—Di Smalley, FACHE, president and CEO
of Mercy Health System of Oklahoma, was elected this week to serve on
the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives
(ACHE) – an international professional society of more than 30,000
healthcare executives.
Smalley took office at the Council of Regents
Meeting during ACHE’s 52nd Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago,
Illinois. She will serve a three-year term representing ACHE affiliates
on the organization’s Board of Governors, the authority that manages
ACHE operations and member services.
Smalley came to Mercy in 2007 and oversees Mercy
Health System of Oklahoma which includes more than 5,000 co-workers,
Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, Mercy Memorial Health Center in
Ardmore and Mercy Health Network — 10 metro area health clinics and
three urgent care facilities. Mercy Health System also includes
statewide partnerships with Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Valley View
Regional Hospital in Ada, as well as several other rural facilities.
Prior to Mercy, Smalley served Avantas LLC, in
Omaha, Nebraska, as president from 2005 to 2007. At Alegent Health in
Omaha, her roles included senior executive from 2003 to 2005, vice
president for operations from 1999 to 2003 and chief operating officer
from 1997 to 1999. She also served Avantas as co-founder and managing
representative from 1999 to 2004.
Smalley’s previous roles included Midlands Community
Hospital, Papillion, Nebraska, as CEO from 1995 to 1997, chief operating
officer from 1983 to 1995, and director of nursing from 1978 to 1983;
Springfield (Illinois) Community Hospital, director of professional
relations from 1976 to 1979.
Before being elected an ACHE Governor, Smalley was
the regent for Nebraska from 2002 through 2006. In addition to her
service to ACHE, Smalley has been a member of the board of directors of
Memorial Community Hospital, the Nebraska Stroke Foundation and the
Nebraska Board of Ambulance Advisors, serving as its chair. She is
currently on the board of directors for the Oklahoma State Chamber of
Commerce and the United Way of Greater Oklahoma City. Board certified in
healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, Smalley received her master’s
degree in public health from the University of Minnesota, and her
bachelor’s degree from Midland Lutheran College in Nebraska.
