Thanks to a team of metro physicians and clinicians
committed to their patients, some Oklahomans are receiving the best
advice available.
Since August of 2005, specialists from
hospitals across Oklahoma City have been meeting each week at Mercy to
map out the best brain treatment for each patient's particular case.
The weekly Radiosurgery Case Presentation Conference
evaluates and recommends the most appropriate radiosurgical treatment
options for certain neurological disorders on a case-by-case basis.
Some of Oklahoma's best medical minds come together to
decide the most effective form of treatment for their patients.
Patients have the benefit of multiple physicians, multiple minds looking
at the condition from different directions.
By definition, radiosurgery is a one-session
surgical procedure directed by a neurosurgeon and a radiation
oncologist. With radiosurgery, the radiation dose given in one session
is usually less than the total dose that would be given in traditional radiation
therapy.
